Creative Writing Course:
Writing Foundations
The Writing Foundations course that I teach in college, introduces the key elements that make stories engaging: plot, characters, and setting. These writing foundations help writers develop clear and compelling stories while building confidence in their creative writing.

During the course, students work towards writing a short story of 500–750 words, using practical exercises such as free writing, character development, dialogue writing, and simple plotting techniques. Each week focuses on a different part of the storytelling process, helping writers develop their ideas step by step.
Course Overview
Week 1 – Plot
Develop a story idea using simple plotting techniques, including the 5 Ws and 1 H.
Week 2 – Characters
Create believable characters and practise writing dialogue.

Week 3 – Setting
Explore how setting and place bring characters and stories to life.
